EXCLUSIVE: After working with Wes Ball on 2024’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, New Zealand actress Lydia Peckham has reunited with the director on Nintendo and Sony‘s The Legend of Zelda, sources tell Deadline.
Reps for the studio declined comment; the actresses’ reps couldn’t be reached. The plot of the live-action video game adaptation, which wrapped production in April, remains under wraps, as does Peckham’s role.
We broke the news yesterday that Sam Neill will appear in the film in one of his final screen roles. Following yesterday’s revelation that Australia’s Uli Latukefu would play villain Ganondorf, we also had the scoop on Dichen Lachman and Yvonne Strahovski’s involvement. Sources were unclear on the roles of Neill and Strahovski, though we are told the latter plays a queen character. We’re told that Severance‘s Lachman plays Impa, the bodyguard and advisor to up-and-comer Bo Bragason’s Princess Zelda.
Benjamin Evan Ainsworth stars opposite Bragason in the lead role of Link. Castings for the Zelda movie have been very closely guarded — before this week, none had emerged since Nintendo’s initial announcement of the two leads last summer.
Ball is directing The Legend of Zelda — slated for release in theaters on May 7, 2027 — from a draft by T.S. Nowlin. Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto produced alongside Avi Arad. Sony co-financed the project with Nintendo and is distributing.
One of the most popular video game franchises of the last four decades, The Legend of Zelda follows the elf-like warrior Link and Princess Zelda as they fight to save the magical land of Hyrule from Ganon, an evil warlord-turned-demon king. Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka are the creators of the franchise, which has sold over 150 million units since 1986.
In high demand these days, Peckham just completed shooting Netflix’s The Kennedys, where she plays John F. Kennedy’s sister Rosemary. Other recent credits include Nuremberg for Sony Pictures Classics, Robin Hood for MGM+, and the Prime Video action comedy The Wrecking Crew with Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa. She is repped by CAA, Atlas Artists and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
