Some of Josh Hartnett's days on set ended with some much-needed rest.

As the actor reflected on starring as Jeremy Crawford in the new movie Verity, he shared insight into filming the Colleen Hoover adaptation amid a harrowing illness.

"It was food poisoning, but it was a terrible food poisoning," Hartnett said on the Oct. 1 episode of SiriusXM's Front Row podcast. "What it was is that I couldn't walk because my muscles had all seized up."

"It was really only about 10 days that I couldn't walk, honestly," he continued, noting that it was "only a few days of shooting."

Meanwhile, director Michael Showalter revealed what days on set were like for Hartnett, who starred opposite Anne Hathaway's Verity Crawford and Dakota Johnson's Lowen Ashleigh.

"For most of the movie, when Josh isn't on camera, he's lying down being tended to," he explained. "Josh was battling some very, very, very serious thing."

Although the Pearl Harbor actor struggled with filming while he recovered, he previously emphasized how much fun he had working on the psychological thriller romance.

"I didn't have anything to come down from at the end of the day," Harnett told E! News before its Oct. 2 release. "We're working with a director who's traditionally worked in comedy, and he has a really good sense of how to make this whole thing work and make this gothic, somewhat thrilling and somewhat sort of horror-y film, but it didn't translate to the set experience."

So, it helped foster an even better relationship with his costars.

"The chemistry was there based off of just friendship and just hanging out and enjoying each other's company," the 48-year-old continued. "Actually, in the middle of some of these, the darker scenes, there were some laughing fits that just didn't stop."

Meanwhile, Hathaway, 43, revealed what she looked forward to most when it came to working with Johnson, 36—an executive producer on the movie—and Harnett.

"It's really cool to work with actors that have such amazing filmographies," she told E!, "because even though I didn't know Dakota very well before this or Josh—we'd met—I showed up really, really, really pumped every day because I just knew what they were capable of as actors.”

"I also knew what the script was and I was gonna get to see you guys go to a place that you've never even gone before," Hathaway, also a producer on the project, added. "So I sometimes feel like that knits the experience together a little bit beforehand."
