Justin Hartley‘s Colter Shaw is getting a new love interest on Tracker!
The hit CBS series will return for Season 4 next month, and executive producer Elwood Reid is teasing a new side of Colter’s life that viewers haven’t seen before.
However, the romantic development raises a big question about Colter’s relationship with Billie Matalon, played by Justin‘s real-life wife Sofia Pernas.
“One of the things I think we’re trying to do this year is open up life outside of the office,” the producer told Us Weekly. “With Colter, we’re going to see the buds of a relationship forming.”
Who Is Colter’s New Love Interest on Tracker Season 4?
While the identity of Colter’s potential new love interest hasn’t been revealed, the producer confirmed that Colter will be the one doing the pursuing.
“We don’t know what it is yet. So it’s someone who Colter is pursuing – and what does that look like? Then can we get a much larger story out of that?” he explained.
Elwood noted that the storyline is particularly unusual for Colter because viewers haven’t really seen him pursue a romance outside of his complicated history with Billie.
“That’s one thing that I think is unique to this season, which is we just never see Colter in a social and possibly romantic situation outside of the Billie universe,” he said.
What Does Colter’s New Romance Mean for Sofia Pernas’ Billie?
Sofia has appeared in multiple episodes of Tracker as Billie, a fellow reward seeker who shares a romantic history with Colter.
The character first appeared during Season 1, when Billie and Colter teamed up to track down a missing racehorse. Sofia previously revealed that she and Justin improvised a kiss between their characters that wasn’t originally scripted.
Despite the new romance, it doesn’t sound like the door has been closed on Billie.
“The thing about Billie is they’re two people who do the same thing. So they know the rules. What would happen if you started to put strings on there?” the producer noted.
He also revealed that they’ve filmed two scenes with the mystery person so far, and they’re “just seeing if it’ll work.”
Will Sofia Pernas Return as Billie in Season 4?
Sofia’s return for Season 4 has not yet been officially confirmed.
When asked who might be coming back for Season 4, Justin told Deadline, “I can tell you who I would love to bring back. I would love, of course, to bring Sofia back.”
Sofia and Justin have been married since 2021.
Tracker Season 4 premieres Sunday, October 4 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
