We finally know when Ryan Gosling is going to make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Disney has scheduled the actor’s upcoming Ghost Rider movie to arrive in theaters on July 28, 2028, according to Variety.

Marvel previously announced that the supernatural superhero movie would premiere sometime in 2028 but had not revealed an exact date.

Marvel now has three movies coming in 2028

The new date places Ghost Rider between two other major MCU releases.

Marvel’s new X-Men movie is scheduled for May 5, 2028, while Black Panther 3 will follow on December 15. That gives the studio three theatrical releases spread across the year.

Ryan was officially introduced as Marvel’s new Ghost Rider during the studio’s Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2026.

“As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a long time,” he told the crowd after joining Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige onstage.

Deadpool & Wolverine filmmaker Shawn Levy will direct the movie. Jonathan Tropper, who wrote Ryan and Shawn‘s upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter, is writing the Ghost Rider screenplay.

The project reportedly originated with Ryan himself. Kevin previously told Empire that “it was Gosling who had the vision,” explaining that the actor’s idea also won over Shawn before they took it to Marvel.

Which version of Ghost Rider will Ryan Gosling play?

That remains one of the biggest unanswered questions about the movie.

Marvel has not confirmed whether Ryan will play Johnny Blaze or another incarnation of Ghost Rider. Nicolas Cage previously portrayed Johnny in 2007’s Ghost Rider and its 2012 sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

There is also a fun connection between the two adaptations: Ryan‘s longtime partner Eva Mendes played Roxanne Simpson opposite Nicolas in the first movie. She celebrated Ryan’s casting in July by sharing a reference to her former character on Instagram.

Marvel has not announced additional cast members or revealed any plot information. It is also unclear when filming will start or whether Ryan‘s Ghost Rider will appear elsewhere in the MCU before his standalone movie.

For now, the movie is officially scheduled to ride into theaters on July 28, 2028.
