Rider Strong says he was “never close” with Ben Savage despite the pair playing best friends on the beloved ABC sitcom Boy Meets World.
“Ben refused to do the [rewatch] podcast [‘Pod Meets World’], but we still communicated with him, still on friendly terms, we thought,” Rider revealed in new documentary Doc Meets World, which debuted at the 2026 Tribeca Festival (via Us Weekly).
“But he unfollowed us on Instagram and blocked our phone numbers. I feel sorry that he’s missing out on the experience that Danielle [Fishel] and Will [Friedle] and I are having,” he continued.
On the sitcom, which ran for seven seasons from 1993 to 2000 and spawned the spinoff series Girl Meets World, Rider and Ben played Shawn Hunter and Corey Matthews, respectively.
Despite not being close, Rider said he and Ben formed a “mind meld as performers and trusted one another” on set.
According to Rider, Ben stayed cordial with him and his Pod Meets World cohosts Danielle and Will, but later turned down an invite to become a cohost himself, allegedly saying he didn’t think it was a “worthwhile creative endeavor or way to connect with fans.”
“I flat-out told him, ‘Wow, I’m really going to miss you doing this; I think you’re making a mistake. I really wish you would consider it,’” Rider shared in Doc Meets World. “And he said, ‘I promise you it’s just not for me.’”
After that, Ben reportedly stopped communicating with his former costars in 2020, with Will sharing a bunch of unanswered texts in the doc that date back several years.
In the documentary, Danielle also spoke about her experience on the show and why Boy Meets World led her to step away from acting after it was over.
