While the Toy Story voice actor emphasized just how sweet and silly his 30-year friendship with his costar is, he revealed that their text messages are far different from their in-person interactions.

"We're very serious," Allen exclusively told E! News at the world premiere of Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5—which premieres June 19—in Los Angeles June 9. "He goes, 'Lunch?' 'Yes, Friday.'"

Although his texts with Hanks are very matter-of-fact, the 72-year-old—who shares daughters Katherine Allen, 36 with ex Laura Deibel, as well as Elizabeth Allen-Dick, 17, with wife Jane Hajduk—emphasized that in real life, "We're really not like that."

In fact, they often go to infinity and beyond when they're actually together, especially during their lunch outings.

"We're like two older women, but I like that," Allen, 72, teased. "We bring little gifts to each other. We've been doing this for years. Little special pens or staplers. He likes typewriters. I like techy stuff."

For the Home Improvement alum, his bond with Hanks—dad to kids Colin Hanks, 48, and Elizabeth Ann Hanks, 44, with ex Samantha Lewes, as well as Chet Hanks, 35, and Truman Hanks, 30, with wife Rita Wilson—is anything but a snake in his boot.

"I can't describe it," Allen explained. "It's almost like a doppleganger. Sometimes we're thinking exactly the same thing, like, 'When's lunch?' We're like 4-year-olds."

"He's got grandchildren and a big family," he continued. "I've got two daughters and a beautiful wife and then you're talking about your family. I can't describe what 30 years have done. This is what we've done and now we've become these two guys."

Indeed, Allen admitted that he can't always wrap his head around the fact that he and Hanks have grown over the past three decades.

Since meeting Hanks while making 1995's Toy Story, Allen has made it a point to cherish their sweet friendship.

"I don't think I've ever trusted a human being as much as Tom to listen to me," Allen said on The Kelly Clarkson Show in November 2022. "And vice versa. We have very different opinions on so many different things, but he's really a wonderful and engaging person—and he's the first guy that listens to me and doesn't judge."
