Just one month ago, Dolly Parton announced that her upcoming Broadway musical would be launching later this year with an official opening night scheduled for her 81st birthday in January 2027.
Following the news of her passing today, the producers of Dolly: A True Original Musical have confirmed that the production will move forward as planned, honoring the icon’s wishes.
“As was Dolly’s wish, the Broadway production of DOLLY: A True Original Musical will begin previews December 7 at the St. James Theatre in New York City,” producers told JustJared.com in a statement.

Dolly said in a statement, “My whole life has been a musical. A grand ole opera really and I can’t wait to present it to you on Broadway. I hope you enjoy watching as much as I’ve enjoyed livin’ it.”
The musical tells the story of Dolly‘s life, using her iconic songs, as well as some new ones that she wrote for the show. Tony winner Bartlett Sher directs with a book by Dolly and Emmy winner Maria S. Schlatter.
Preview performances will begin on Monday, December 7 ahead of the official opening night celebration on Tuesday, January 19, 2027, which happens to be Dolly‘s birthday.
