Sara Bareilles has dropped her new song “Still Crying” and the music video serves as a reunion for the cast of her sitcom Girls5eva.

The Grammy-winning singer and songwriter is preparing for the upcoming release of her album Good Grief and this is the second song we’ve heard so far. “Home” was released back in early June.

Sara said about the new track, “The seeds of this song were planted in 2020, in a moment of great fear and worry, and they finally came into full bloom at Aaron Dessner’s studio in upstate New York just last year. With Aaron’s help, we made one of my favorite songs on the record. I often think about how dynamic it is to be so attuned to emotional states of being. How in order to feel the ecstatic of the highs, you must also deeply feel the ache of the lows. This song is for those of us who find ourselves in the depths maybe more often than we’d like.”

She added, “I was trying to wrap my arms around the redundancy and the stuckness of that feeling of, ‘How am I here again? Why am I still crying? I’m still in the same loop.’”

The music video was directed by Girls5eva director Kimmy Gatewood and Sara revealed in an Instagram post that they had just two weeks to plan and film the video.

Girls5eva cast members Renee Elise Goldsberry, Paula Pell, John Lutz, Janine Brito, and Daniel Breaker are all featured in the video, along with Sara‘s husband Joe Tippett as the arm wrestler.

“We had 2 weeks to make a video. First I panicked and felt small. Then I called friends. I asked for their help. Every single one said yes. I felt less small and more brave. The people who made this video behind the scenes and are in this video are literal angels and I’m so proud to call them my friends,” she said.
