& Juliet, the Broadway dance-pop jukebox musical that imagines Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet if Juliet hadn’t ended it all after Romeo, will play its final performance on Sunday, January 3, 2027, more than four years after it opened at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.

At its closing, the musical will have played 1,723 regular performances and 20 preview performances, making it one of the 50 longest-running Broadway musicals of all time.

Nominated for nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, & Juliet was created by David West Read and features a playlist of hit songs from writer-producer Max Martin including “Since U Been Gone,” “Roar,” “I Want It That Way,” “Confident,” and more. The production is directed by Luke Sheppard with choreography by Jennifer Weber.

After opening on Broadway on November 17, 2022, & Juliet broke multiple box office records at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, recouping its $17 million capitalization in 2024, the first new musical of its season to do so. Producers say the production has grossed more than $175 million.

Last week, & Juliet took in $779,070, a decent amount if not a match for the $1 million-plus grosses of its peak years. Attendance was at about 90% of the Sondheim’s capacity.

The Broadway production’s long success though has spurred tours that have played in 73 US cities, nine countries and four continents, producers said.

The show currently stars Gianna Harris as ‘Juliet,’ Paulo Szot and Joey Fatone as ‘Lance,’ Alison Luff as ‘Anne,’ Corey Mach as ‘Shakespeare,’ Michael Iván Carrier as ‘May,’ Chrissy Metz as ‘Angélique,’ Ben Jackson Walker as ‘Romeo,’ and Makai Hernandez as ‘François.’
