EXCLUSIVE: Drew Simon is set to depart Infrared, the FilmNation-backed production label he founded four years ago with FilmNation CEO Glen Basner, to pursue new opportunities. Sources tell Deadline that after four years building Infrared and seeing its initial slate through production, Simon felt the timing was right to pursue his next opportunity. Sources say Simon will be staying on as a producer for a number of upcoming films.
He leaves Infrared following an active run of productions, most recently wrapping Skeletons last month. Simon produced the film alongside J.J. Abrams, with J.T. Mollner directing and Brie Larson, John Goodman and Kyle Gallner starring. Prior to that film, Simon produced Painter for 20th Century Studios alongside James Cameron and Derek Kolstad, which is set for release on Hulu/Disney+ in early ’27. Directed by Garrett Warren, the upcoming action film stars Amber Midthunder and Walton Goggins.
Simon also produced Novocaine, starring Jack Quaid, which was released globally by Paramount in 2025. Simon launched Infrared with Basner and FilmNation with a mandate to develop and produce commercial, filmmaker-driven movies with global theatrical potential.
Before founding Infrared, Simon spent seven years at STX Entertainment, ultimately serving as EVP and overseeing production on more than 25 films, including the Bad Moms franchise, Den Of Thieves, Greenland, The Foreigner, 21 Bridges, Mile 22, My Spy and others. Across STX and Infrared, Simon has built his career around developing and producing commercial feature films and working with filmmakers, talent and studios to bring globally oriented theatrical projects to the screen.
Simon plans to announce his next move at a later date.”
