Coco Gauff is sharing her thoughts on the controversial moment at the 2026 US Open when a group of influencers appeared to stage a photo shoot in the middle of a match.
While Naomi Osaka was playing against Anastasia Zakharova in a first-round match on Monday, August 31, a group of influencers were seen filming a video while the tennis stars were in the middle of a point.
Coco is supportive of influencers attending the US Open, but thinks they need to learn the proper etiquette.
During a press conference after her second-round match on Thursday, Coco shared her thoughts.
“I think it’s great to have a different demographic to the sport,” Coco told reporters (via People). “I have no problem with influencers. I’ve met some of them and follow some of them online. Luckily the ones I do follow online do follow the etiquette and know tennis pretty well.”
“Any venue you come to, you have to follow that etiquette towards it,” she continued. “I think it might be on some of the brands to, to maybe have a sign plastered in the suite so that they know because sometimes it’s their first tennis match.”
Coco is bothered when there is flash photography.
“I definitely think no flash photography because that does bother [me]. I am one of the lenient players. Try not to talk too loud. I mean, Ashe is a very loud court, so I’m used to it, but definitely not like mouthing TikToks and stuff in the middle of a point,” Coco said. “It’s not just for the rest of the players but for the viewing experience for those around. If I had to pick noise over flash, I definitely think no flash because that actually does mess us up a little bit.”
