Hot off winning his 14th Primetime Emmy, former Late Show host Stephen Colbert was full of yucks backstage.

First off, he was shocked that there was no such thing as Viacom anymore. “Is there a Viacom? What, there’s no Viacom? That’s why I work for them!”

Is there no Viacom, what/ oh there’s no Viacom, well, that’s why I work for them. .

Asked if he was getting antsy, and what was on deck, Colbert made it known that his hands are full. Hello, he’s writing Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past for Peter Jackson.

“That takes a lot of time, man;” Colbert exclaimed to the reporter, “You ever written a Lord of the Rings movie?”

Colbert said he just flew in from New Zealand. “Yesterday New Zealand was tomorrow here? I don’t know how many days it’s been. I’m in keemo psychosis.”

But really, does he have plans to return to late night after the local pay cable stunt he did following his sign off from Late Show?

“How does it pay? Not well? That sounds like show business nowadays”

“I got no plans. We’re all looking. You can check me out tomorrow on the Jimmy Kimmel show.”

Before he walked away, Colbert was asked what it would take for Strangers With Candy to be revived as a series. Could he get Paul Dinello and Amy Sedaris together? Colbert co-wrote the show with them as well as Mitch Rouse.

“The woman who actually wrote that show was a woman named Jocelyn Hershey Guest,” said Robert.

“If you can get her involved, if you can find her, by the way, her name is Jocelyn Hershey Guest,” he continued, “If you can find her, I’ll do her show, but she’s got to write the episodes, ’cause I’m too tired.”

In Strangers With Candy lore, Guest was an imagined middle-aged woman the writers conceived, to absolve themselves of any offensive material they wrote.

Last year at the Emmys when Colbert took the stage, following the news of Late Show‘s cancellation by the David Ellison Paramount, he was greeted with a massive standing ovation at LA’s Peacock Theater.
